To His Name

"Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness."
 Psalm 115:1

The words to a hymn from my childhood were running through my heart so loudly yesterday that I had to dig out a hymnal, sit down at the piano, and play.

"To God be the glory great things He hath done And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer and higher and greater will be
Our wonder our transport when Jesus we see!

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the earth here His voice
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice
Oh come to the Father through Jesus the Son
And give Him the glory great things He hath done"

Yes! Let the people rejoice! Great things He hath done! To His name be the glory! To God and God alone!

Rejoicing in His Greatness,
Abundantly Blessed

Winter's Grace

Crackling fires, steaming tea kettles, snowflakes stuck to windows, Cozy blankets, warm socks, brisk walks, crunchy steps, melting ice on the floor, hats and gloves scattered around where children leave them, boots heaped around the door, rosy cheeks, sparkling eyes, quick toboggan rides, firewood gathered, ax ringing, wood split and stacked, soup simmering, bread toasted, butter melted, hot cocoa leaving rings around the mouths of children, books read, pictures colored, games played, cards shuffled, and movies watched.

Popcorn becomes a delightful delicacy and promises of hot cocoa inspire the most reluctant to complete their lessons. Family gathers around to hear Papa read the Bread of Life that is also the Sword of the Spirit and sends prayers to heaven so sweet.

Sugar scrubs soften dry skin and the oil of the Holy Spirit softens dry hearts. The chirps of birds at the feeder cheer as the giggles of children delight.

Mama Kitty purrs in a low rumble expressing supreme contentment and Abundantly Blessed mama would rumble like Mama Kitty, if she could, when sun beams shine warm on the wooden floor.

There is grace in the cold of Winter. It is a grace for all to gratefully receive at will. Will you receive daily blessings as a gift of grace from the hand of a loving Heavenly Papa? Even the puddles of melted ice on the floor? The ones that soak straight through a sock when found? Will you receive it as a gift? Will you? Will you decide that today, this day, instead of seeing mud and ice you will see proof of a warm shelter and evidence of provision instead of a mess of scattered crumbs?

That is the exercise I am focusing on so intently here at the beginning of this new year. I am working out the muscles of gratefulness by choosing to see truth when there is temptation to be deceived.

When I am tempted to be distressed by the messes that seem to abound, I am learning to resist this temptation by training myself to see what really is. Yes, there might be a puddle of dirty water by the door. Such puddles are proof that our home is a warm refuge from the cold outside. When I wipe up those puddles it is proof that I am healthy and physically able to care for those in our home. It is not a burdensome chore to care for those I love.

Those crumbs that sometimes cover the counters bother a mama unless she sees truth. Those crumbs testify that there is food in the house for us to eat. We are not hungry. We have been fed. God has provided for our every need.

And the laundry...the dirty laundry. Dirty laundry shows we are clothed. We are not naked shivering out in the cold without adequate coverings. Not only are we clothed, judging by the size of the laundry pile, we are clothed very well.

Will I see fly away hair, dry skin, wood chips, soaked socks, and muddy footprints and consider them burdens or will I see these things for what the really truly are, evidence of the abundant faithfulness and provision of God?

Counting Winter's gifts of Grace,
Abundantly Blessed

A New Fit

Sometimes when a new year is just starting to edge its way in, when the new is attempting to shove itself into yesterday's rhythms, when nothing is the same yet it isn't quite different either sometimes a person can feel like they are sliding straight into the land of the overwhelmed. Sometimes. It is during these seasons of sometimes that a mama might find herself crawling up on the lap of her Abba Father and just sitting there snuggled close in His arms; she might also stay snuggled in for a very long while.

Perhaps some would say the mama who does this is "hiding out" in a desperate attempt to escape the sordid realities of "real" life such as bickering children, tired and cranky whiners, accidentally wet unders, among other things. They would be correct. But I have to wonder what better place to hide than the arms of the Loving Heavenly Father? Who else knows what is really going on? Who else knows what is in the heart of a moody pre-teen? Who else knows how to encourage a young boy and his older brothers that God's way is the best way? And Who but God Himself knows what "real" life is anyway? I know of no better place for hiding than the arms of God.  (See Psalm 91)

Sometimes just when the land of the overwhelmed looms largest God speaks through an email in an inbox. When that happens, the word must be shared. Such a word entered my inbox today. It came through this link: http://links.zondervancorporation.mkt4728.com/ctt?kn=21&ms=NTMxODczNDMS1&r=MjIyODIwMzc1MDA4S0&b=0&j=MTA4MjI4MjY1NwS2&mt=1&rt=0. If you too want to be blessed and encouraged you can click on the link and read about radical repentance and grace. It makes me wonder what alabaster jar I have to empty out at His feet. Maybe I am the alabaster jar made to be poured out in extravagant adoration and worship. Maybe you are too.

From the arms of Abba and the feet of Jesus,
Abundantly Blessed

A post on abundance surely ought to be shared on a blog named Abundance House. Please enjoy the following encouraging word.

"We're Entering the Realm of Abundant Blessing & Overflow!"
Jesse Shamp, Nashville, TN

I pray that this will be a year of abundant blessing in your life! May the Lord release an abundance of anointing, miracles, grace and divine supply! The Lord has been speaking to me about the realm of abundant blessing as we come into this new year. Jesus said, "The enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but I am come that they may have life and have it more abundantly" (John10:10).

We know that the enemy's strategy is to create destruction in our lives. Yet, Jesus said He came to give us abundant life! The word life is translated "Zoe" in the Greek, which means the God kind of life. You are called to live the God kind of life! This life is not a life of lack but a life of abundance; a life of overflow! Do not settle for anything that is not God's best! God wants the very best for His children!

A Life of Overflow

"Ask, and you shall receive that your joy may be full" (John 16:24). It's the Lord's desire to give good gifts to His children. As the Word of God says, He wants to give us the very desires of our hearts (see Psalm 37:4). God spoke to me and said, "Jesse, I want to bring you into the realm of abundant blessing!"

I believe it's a word for you as well. God has been speaking to me about His Body and how He desires that the Church receive a shift in thinking to understand that God will not only supply our needs, but He wants to give us an abundant supply! The Bible says that my God shall supply all of your needs, according to His riches in glory (see Philippians 4:19). There is a place where God supplies your needs and He will sustain you! He will provide for you beyond a shadow of a doubt! Yet, there is a realm where God brings you into an abundant supply.
"Now to Him who is able to (carry out His purpose and) do super-abundantly more than all that we dare ask or think (infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams)." (Ephesians 3:20 Amp)

Raise Your Expectations and Look to Him

God would have us to lift our expectation and believe in Him, not only to supply our needs but for God to bring us into a place of abundance and overflow (see 1 Corinthians 10:1). I began to think of the children of Israel and how they were set free from the bondage of Pharaoh, and the Lord brought them out of Egypt with a strong and mighty hand. The Lord sent His cloud!
The purpose of God sending the cloud of glory was to provide for the children of Israel. They ate manna everyday from the cloud as they were in the wilderness. The cloud kept them from sickness, and also protected them from their enemies. This is what God's cloud and His presence does in our own lives. Yet, the wilderness was not the final destination; the final destination was the Promised Land. A land that flows with milk and honey—a place of abundant supply and overflow!

If you recall, it was right before Joshua and the children of Israel took the land of Canaan that the manna ceased from coming. "And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year." Joshua 5:12.

You may ask, "Why did the Lord stop sending the manna, right before they were going to take the land of Canaan?" Because God wanted to bring them out of the realm of just enough, and lead them into the realm of abundant blessing!

I declare abundance and overflow today in every area of your life! I speak breakthrough over your life: Breakthrough in finances, in relationships, in opportunity, in Jesus' mighty name!

Let abundance and breakthrough be yours in 2017! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List go here.)

Dough Snowflake

Here is one of the snowflakes we made out of a cornstarch baking powder dough. The dough is much whiter in color than typical salt doughs. Please pretend the hot glue doesn't show. Thank You. Recipes for the dough can be found online. Any shape cutter can be used. Valentine hearts would be beautiful.

Food for the New Year

Slow cookers full of bubbling soups and breadsticks in a basket, this is food for a New Year. Later, when the afternoon is going by, brownie sundaes fill the hunger for a little bit of sweet.

Simple abundance can be oh so extravagant on a new winters day.
