What Does God Say?

Hi! It's Wednesday! What Does Say Wednesday is here! We are in the book of Colossians chapter 3. Today we will be looking at verses 4 and 5:

"When Christ, Who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in [the splendor of His] glory.

So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God)."

More to meditate on and ponder. Some thoughts that came to me as I was reading through this portion of scripture were:
  1. Who is my life? My life is a who not a what. Life is a being not an object, and it is Christ.
  2.  I will appear with Him in the splendor of His glory, not my own personal glory, His.
  3. "So kill" evil desires lurking and all that is earthly in me - this is a command. It isn't a suggestion or option.
  4. idolatry = the deifying of self and other created things instead of God. Have I done this? Have I deified myself or other created things in any way? I pray not.
These verses lend themselves to a thorough soul searching. Two-way journaling with God would be perfect for meditating on this portion of God's word.

Opening my journal and listening to the Holy Spirit of God,

Warriors Rising

"The Rising of the Aging Warriors"
by Darren Canning, Ontario, Canada

I just had a vision of the older generation. I see that many who are in their 50's and higher have been battling the thoughts of the enemy for a long time. Many of you have been gripped with chains of depression, anxiety and fear. Some of you may have resorted to substance abuse and even medication in order to cope with the weight that came against you.

However, the battle in the mind is actually a battle in the spirit. You have been in the middle of an incredible battle and you have barely held your ground but you will hold your ground. You will be like David's mighty man Shammah.

2 Samuel 23:11-12 says, "One time the Philistines gathered at Lehi and attacked the Israelites in a field full of lentils. The Israelite army fled, but Shammah held his ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory."

There is a mighty valor that rises on the hearts of God's people when they determine to stand their ground despite the coming onslaught before them. You may be going through a difficult time on the job. You may be facing persecution from family for your faith. You may not have enough money to get to the end of the week and the landlord is threatening to throw you out, but if you stand your ground in faith none of these things will overcome you. You will triumph every time in Christ.
Bursting into the Realm of God's Light

Just recently I saw a vision of a man's head bursting through the iron clouds of darkness into the eternal realm of God's light and love. I actually saw this amazing amber light glow as his head went into the realm of God's presence.

You see, the victory for your breakthrough has already been established. When Jesus died on the Cross, your salvation was secure in Him, but the battle lies in the thoughts. If the enemy can keep your mind on earthly things and bound to his lies then you will not overcome. But if you seek God He will fill you with His glorious thoughts and you will rule and reign in Him.

I watched as this man's head burst into the stratosphere of God's blinding light and all darkness began to fall off of him. You need to continue to seek God until you find Him. There is no point in giving up. You have to stand up and fight another day.

Each morning when you wake, ask God for His thought for the day. He will guide you and you will overcome. He has good treasures in store for your life... so many of them that you would never be able to imagine them let alone count them.

I know that many in the older generation have been pressing into the things of God for a long time, but they have learned to persevere as a result. I declare that if you are one of these then you will become some of the greatest dragon slayers of our time. The dragons are the thoughts that would destroy the minds of mankind. Once you have broken into the realm of God's presence and glory you will help others do the same. You will become the greatest peacemakers and encouragers. You will become the lifters of broken hearts and minds.

When we get the victory in Jesus, this victory becomes the potential victory for many others. I pray that you will continue to persevere so that you will become hardened to the enemies tactics and alive in the things of God. I pray that His great hope will awaken your senses so that you begin to fight like never before.
The truth is: Your greatest days are before you.

Perceived Reality

" "The lions may roar and growl, yet the teeth of the great lions are broken." - Job 4:10

In the advertising business we often say that "perception is reality" for the person who views our advertising message. It does not matter whether the audience believes the message to be true, only that they perceive it to be true. Their actions will be the same whether they believe it or only perceive it.

The enemy of our souls is very good at this game. He may bring on us what we perceive to be true when it is a lie. "
- Os Hillman

Link to article in its entirety: http://www.marketplaceleaders.org/perception-is-not-reality/

The above quote, and entire article, struck especially close to home; I have been witnessing this very thing happen in the lives of people I know. Fellow believers they trust created and spread stories of a perceived reality that has a small group of professing believers hating and angry. They are going to "get theirs". Godly leadership and authority have been falsely perceived as the enemy's tool, and a portion of the saints have been attacking with a vengeance that must surely make the enemy of our souls proud.

"It does not matter whether the audience believes the message to be true, only that they perceive it to be true. Their actions will be the same whether they believe it or only perceive it." - Os Hillman

As rumors concerning this local situation travel around the nation with abandon, the abundance of hearts is being exposed.(Luke 6:45) Wickedness, deception, and seduction are being laid bare for all to see. Some are shocked at the depth of evil being manifested by professors of Christ. Some are horrified. Others are simply relieved to have things out in the open - at last. Finally, game playing can end so those not involved in the yuck can be about the Heavenly Father's business. God's people have been praying for God to purify His people and for unity; He is answering, albeit in a manner not necessarily expected.

As I witness the "war between the brethren" ebb and flow amongst those who once walked as friends, I find myself drawn to hunker in close to Abba - and pray. The enemy may be flinging fiery darts, but Abba has supplied the complete armor of a heavy-armed soldier.(Ephesians 6) Would you join me in praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus the world around? We'll pray just as Jesus taught, for only His words are true, and truth is what the saints are in desperate need of.

For all of Christ's followers we now pray:

Our Father,
Who art in heaven
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on earth as it is
in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not
into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom
and the power
and the glory
Matthew 6:9-13

Sharing His Resurrection from the Dead

"We have been raised with Christ to a new life, sharing His resurrection from the dead."
 - meditation from Colossians 3:1a

As I was meditating on the above portion of verse one, Col. 3, a thought considering "sharing His resurrection from the dead" in relation to the remainder of the chapter came. Colossians chapter three teaches how I am to live and conduct myself personally and in relation to others. I realized that the instructions and descriptions following verse one are because I now share in His resurrection from the dead. Those old practices are part of death. I have been raised with Christ; I am not to look, act, talk, or live as dead any longer. There is to be a difference in me once I come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. I am to live, look, act, speak, work as one alive in Christ!

These thoughts brought me back to the very first word of the chapter: if. "If then you have been raised with Christ to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead," The word if informs me there is an opportunity for this to not be so. The word if also clues me in to the fact that if I can be raised with Christ, I can also not be raised with Him. It is a choice, a decision I and only I can make. If I have chosen to accept God's offer of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, then there ought to be visible fruit of His life i.e. kindness, goodness, forgiveness, gentleness, patience, wisdom, understanding and so on. If there isn't, then perhaps I need to search my heart and find out why. If an ungodly dead lifestyle remains a regular part of my every day life, where is Jesus?

These questions are prompting me to search farther and dig deeper. Here are some additional scriptures gleaned while digging further into truth. May they enrich your time of meditation as they have mine. More and more uttering, muttering, and pondering to do:)

May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, Ephesians 3:17

And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] asChrist loved us and gave Himself up for us, a slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance. Ephesians 5:2

Here are a couple of verses we can pray over our brothers and sisters in Christ:

And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you. Philippians 1:6

For I am well assured and indeed know that through your prayers and a bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) this will turn out for my preservation (for the spiritual health and welfare of my own soul) and avail toward the saving work of the Gospel. Philippians 1:11

Something that is happening as I meditate on the Word is that as I am meditating other scriptures related to the ones I am meditating on come to mind. When I look the additional verses up, they lead me to still others. As this journey through the scriptures continues on, I find chapters and verses are no longer boundaries but rather helpful bits to assist me as so many pieces come together in one interwoven message of Love, a love letter than cannot be divided into unrelated chapters and verses for me to pick and choose at will. One verse ties to another and that to another and another in a never-ending Word of Love, God.

I no longer live for my new, real life is hidden with Christ in God,

Uttering, Muttering, and Pondering

Hi! I'm still uttering, muttering, and pondering on our verses from yesterday's post.

Yesterday's meditation was from the first part of Colossians three verse one. I personalized it "I have been raised with Christ to a new life, sharing His resurrection from the dead."

Today's is personalized too "I aim at and seek the rich, eternal treasures that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God."

A pulsating excitement is surging throughout me when I consider the transformation such truth brings. Think about the difference knowing we have been raised with Christ to a new life, sharing His resurrection from the dead will bring! The possibilities are astounding! Other scriptures such as "With God all things are possible." are SO MUCH easier to come into agreement with when the reality that I share in Christ's resurrection from the dead is hidden in my heart.

Yes sir and ma'am, we're going somewhere now. We're moving on up higher than the Jefferson's dreamt  possible. Beyond what we can think, see, feel, dream, and imagine comes to mind. Thank you for joining me in Hiding God's Word in my heart more fully than ever before. It may not seem as exciting as seeing angels or gold dust appearing, but I truly believe that when we build a solid foundation of truth, the glories God will allow us to witness will surpass our wildest imaginings and longings. For He is the Word. He is Truth. He is the Way. When we are meditating on scriptures, we are meditating on Him. Angels and gold dust may very well manifest as He is increased in us, but they are not what we seek. We seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (His way of living and being).

We have been raised with Christ to a new life, sharing His resurrection from the dead.
In Him,

What God Says Wednesday

Good Morning!

The past few months have found me wondering something A LOT. They have found me wondering whether or not Christians have any idea what God has said. God has given us His word, the Bible, and it is filled with everything we need to live a Godly life. Yet, over and over and over again, I  catch myself, and hear my children, speaking and living as if we haven't even seen a Bible before.

As I was praying over this it came to me that perhaps I'm not the only one. Perhaps other brothers and sisters in Jesus could benefit from rediscovering  what God says. For some of us, it's been a very long time since children's Sunday School and Children's Church lessons instructed us in the basics of Christian living. One of the results of my prayerful wondering is a new feature on the blog: "What Does God Say Wednesdays".

What Does God Say Wednesdays will feature a portion from the Bible aka something God says. The portion will be short in length, and the discussion won't be long. This isn't meant for sermonizing; it's intended to provide opportunity for digging in deep and learning more about God on a personal level through what He says in His Word, the Bible.

I don't know about you, but I could definitely benefit from some tried and true meditation, the ole "utter, mutter, and ponder" technique. What I was taught to do was take the scripture, or portion of scripture, speak it out loud, then while going through the rest of the day, week, month, etc., quietly mutter it over and over pondering on it.

The first portion of scripture I intentionally uttered, muttered, and pondered was Colossians 3:14 - "Above all, love..." That's it. That's the only part of the verse I meditated on. At that time in life, a potentially conflicting situation loomed on the horizon. Wanting to remain in God's way, I called a pastor's wife for counsel and prayer. She shared this verse with me, and I meditated on it for the next couple of days continually. The difference meditating on the verse made in my particular situation and the rest of my life was amazing.
It is my prayer that our time in the Word Wednesdays will bring about even more amazing differences, in all of our lives.

This Wednesday's verses will require several days to adequately meditate on. We're not wanting to provide lackadaisical lip service. We're putting our spiritual gloves on and digging in deep, plowing up the hard places of our hearts so the soil of our hearts will be beautifully soft for the seed of God's Word to grow and bear delightful fruit. We're becoming a pure and spotless bride of Christ. No lazy soldiers of Jesus here. We delight in becoming more like Him.

Shall we get started? Colossians chapter three is where we will begin. This chapter is filled to overflowing with practical, yet profound, truths and instructions. I have lots of room for improvement, and this is a great place to start! Today we will focus on verses 1-3.

Colossians 3Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

If then you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.
For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.

Aiming at and seeking the eternal treasures where Christ is,
