Mama's Heart

Let's imagine for a moment that this is my porch. Let's also imagine that together you and I are sitting on that delightful looking porch swing enjoying the late afternoon sunshine of this beautiful fall day. Would you imagine this with me?

Okay, now that we are relaxing on the swing, can you hear the birds chattering away as they prepare for evening? I can feel the day's tension melting already. Can't you? Maybe we sip from cups of spiced cider or tea as we enjoy our time together.

Our conversation takes many twists and turns as it flows along the way precious visits always do. Just like our times together frequently do, the topic comes to our children. How much we love them! How great is our desire for their success and happiness! How deep our joy in being their mothers! Yet, in the middle of the great joy sorrow occasionally comes. We love them, but what does loving them well look like? Exactly how are we supposed to do and be the mothers we so desperately want to be for them? What on earth are we doing? Only God knows.

God. Yes, God is good always. We hold onto Him like one drowning. We join our hearts in prayer asking Him for answers for wisdom for grace to know what His desires for our children are and how to mother them well. We seek Him like we've never sought Him before because these are times we've never lived in before. And in His infinite grace He joins us there on the porch in the swing. His sweet presence envelopes us in a heavenly hug, and we know that He is with us. He loved us so much He gave His Son; He will give us the answers in due season too. If we parent as He has parented us, we will have done well. If we love as we have been loved by Him, our children will know Him to be true.

Encouraging us in our journey of love is Sally Clarkson, an author beloved by many. Books such as Mom Heart Moments Daily Devotions for Lifegiving Motherhood enrich and strengthen us day by day. Pointing us to the Word of God and leading us with His loving grace, Sally Clarkson shares her heart for Christ over and over and over again. Perhaps we even watch a video of listen to a podcast from their ministry. As you get reading to go home, we join once more in prayer giving thanks to God for godly mamas who have walked this love road before us and are now sharing God's lifegiving ways.

*Sally Clarkson isn't the only Christian author to receive wisdom and encouragement from. I merely wanted to call attention to the devotional book I am currently reading. There are several other books from the Clarkson family that are also on my Christmas wish list. Please be encouraged by whatever godly author God Holy Spirit leads you to read and/or listen to. There have been a number of books written by different authors who have encouraged and strengthened me at various times throughout the many seasons of motherhood. Each one of them has been a tremendous blessing.
