We Remember

The Word of God is full of promises straight from the Creator to the created. The word promises has been defined as a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen. If we were to take each scripture containing the word promises and insert this definition, we could have ourselves a glory party. Let me assure you, that would preach! Let's do this with a few verses.
  • 2 Corinthians 1:20
  • Psalm 18:30
  • Psalm 33:4
  • Psalm 37:4
  • Psalm 42:8
The Bible is packed with assurances for salvation, protection, provision, deliverance, healing, restoration, refuge, comfort, companionship. Literally every area of our lives is covered by a promise of God for good not harm. It's amazing! It's marvelous! It's wonderful to think that the God of the Universe, Creator God cares so much about mankind that He would promise eternal care and love!

And yet, as overwhelmingly magnificent as the promises of God are, we can sometimes find ourselves stuck in a quandary. They are wonderful, they are amazing, they are marvelous, but what do we do when we pray and believe and believe and pray over and over and over and nothing seems to change? What do we do when the dog still chases chickens and tries to eliminate the cats? When the loved ones continue to make really unhealthy choices? What then? Then, we remember.

We remember truth and war with it. We remember everything we could ever need for life and complete devotion to God has already been deposited in us by his divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing him who has called us by name and invited us to come to him through a glorious manifestation of his goodness. As a result of this, he has given you magnificent promises that are beyond all price, so that through the power of these tremendous promises you can experience partnership with the divine nature, by which you have escaped the corrupt desires that are of the world. 2 Peter 1:3,4 TPT

We remember to obey Ephesians 6:11-18 and put on God's complete set of armor provided for us. We will remind ourselves that our hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings. Then we will put on the armor as we read through those scriptures. Not only will we remember, but we will also ask ourselves the questions God asks in Isaiah 40:27. "Do you not know? Have you not heard?" What do we know to be true? What have we heard God say?

When it isn't quite so hard, when the battle isn't as intense as it was, we prepare for the next time it is. We follow God's example and create a visible reminder of His faithfulness, something we can go back to when the going gets rough, the lies are screaming loud, and doubt is trying to wrap itself around us in a stranglehold. We create a book of remembrance, so to speak. Somewhere, we keep a record of those times God has been faithful. For some that might be a journal of written prayer requests answered. others might have a scrapbook of pictures to be reminded by . Still others might create digital records online.

Whatever that looks like, we remember and record God's faithfulness so that when it seems like nothing is true we can put those records of His faithfulness and truth in front of our eyes and remind ourselves that He did it before. Malachi 3:6 tells us He is God. He changes not. Because He changes not, what He has done, He will yet do again. He will do it again.
